NEW EUROPEAN BAUHAUS on the DANUBEExecutive Conference #1The first NEW EUROPEAN BAUHAUS on the DANUBE Conference will investigate, how to seriously support and drive resilient development in Danube territories. The event brings together a transdisciplinary pool of decision makers, urbanists, artists and activists, business leaders, finance experts, academics and NGOs from the region. Together we want to achieve tangible results.

Our cities were built in response to yesterday's questions. A robust vision of the future, post-fossil, with short distances, balanced urban-rural relationships and responsible land use cannot result from established solutions alone. DANUBE FUTURE WORKS is about asking new questions.

The conference builds on three years of intensive non-for-profit work of the NEW EUROPEAN BAUHAUS on the DANUBE initiative. It is co-hosted by NONA, a project funded by the Interreg Danube Transnational Program. The conference at HfG Ulm is intended to reflect on shared intentions, reach out and extend the initiative.

DANUBE FUTURE WORKS is a hybrid conference - workshop format. Major Keynotes alternate with transdisciplinary working sessions and professional inputs from a series of expert.In the working sessions, participants will tackle four specific case studies brought in from the network. All of  them are structured around the challenge to “make the best from what we already have” and employ design as a tool to work with and for society. The different examples all envision, or ask for, interventions that contribute to territorial repair. They share the need for an inclusive design process of open-minded inventory, bold approach, tailor-made proposal and balanced action.

Guided Tour in the HfG Archive

Under the title "The Ulm School of Design – From the Zero Hour to 1968", the HfG Archive presents a permanent exhibition on the history of this legendary academy. The exhibition includes more than 200 exhibits and numerous photographs from the comprehensive inventory at the HfG Archive in Ulm. Berlin-based musician Jürgen Grözinger studied classical percussion in Munich and Stuttgart and is specialist in extravagant mixtures. The Stadtregal Ulm is the successfully realised conversion and reutilisation of former lorry production and storage structures in Ulm's Weststadt district. The industrial site at IVECO-Magirus had mutated into a degraded area. Instead of the industrial redevelopment of the area, the City of Ulm and the city-owned project development company PEG developed a concept to convert and reutilize the former production and storage structures as a new "urban quarter" for living, working and culture.
